Run With Scissors Marathon and
Double
Participant Information
Packet Pickup: Ledges Shelter,
Drop Bags: Drop bags must be clearly marked with your
bib number, name and Aid Station Location where you want your bag
delivered. You will receive your bib number at packet pickup. Please bring your
drop bags to packet pickup on Saturday, if possible. You may not have your bag
first time through Pine Hollow due to the logistics of getting them there.
There are no limits on drop bags. Please do not pack more than you need.
SECURELY pack all bags in resealable, waterproof containers. Garbage bags are
not suitable containers for use as drop bags.
Pacers: There will be no pacers allowed
unless they are approved by the Race Director prior to the run. Pacers will be
allowed only in the case of special need. Runners will be allowed to have
someone (or two) run with them from
Parking: There is ample parking at Ledges
Shelter. Please carpool if you can. You will be close to your car at the
start/finish area if you need access to it. Please lock your vehicle and keep
valuables out of sight.
Rules: Follow all National Park rules
at all times. No aid is to be provided by crew except in the vicinity of
designated Aid Stations. No aid will be given from any type of moving vehicle.
There will
be NO LITTERING -- carry your trash to a proper receptacle -- that includes all
food waste. If you litter, you will be DISQUALIFIED without exception. We will
have extra trash containers on the course -- USE THEM!
Downhill
runners have the right-of-way on out and back sections.
There may be
horses on the course in some areas. In the National Park, HORSES have the
right-of-way. WALK when near horses. Talk to the rider for passing
instructions. NEVER touch the horse without permission from the rider. NEVER
make sudden moves or loud noises around horses.
Headphones
are not prohibited -- but are discouraged. Enjoy the company of your fellow
runners as well as the music of nature. If you insist upon wearing some
personal noisemaker during the event, be sure the volume is low enough to hear
other runners who want to pass you. Turn devices off in Aid Stations, aid
workers will make ONE ATTEMPT to speak to you -- if you can't hear them, you
are on your own for aid.
Cell phones
are also not prohibited but why would you want one during a race?
Course
Markings: The
course will be marked with streamers and plates with arrows indicating turns.
There will be examples of markers at packet pickup. We will mark where you
SHOULD go, not where you SHOULD NOT go! Pay attention to the course markings.
If you get off course, return to the spot you got off course and continue.
Cutting of the course will not be tolerated -- shortening the course cheats you
out of the feeling of accomplishment you will have upon running the whole
course.
Safety: There will only be course
marshals at a few locations to assist with road crossings -- not all of them.
Course workers will not stop traffic -- only runners. Remember what your Mom
told you -- look both ways before crossing the street. When in doubt -- wait!
Aid Stations: Aid stations will be stocked
with salty snacks, PB&J, Gatorade, water, Heed, and lots of other good
stuff. There will be hot soup at Covered Bridge and hot drinks and food at the
turnaround.
Be sure to
thank the aid workers -- without them there is no race!
